GroupWise is too slow?

If you are finding that GroupWise takes more than 30 seconds to load up each morning, it may be because GroupWise archiving isn't working as it should be on your computer.  If you have more than 2500 messages in any GroupWise folder (e.g. Inbox, Trash), GroupWise will be very sluggish starting up while it locates and scans each and everyone of those messages.  When archiving is turned on, GroupWise puts older email messages into a separate location. You still have access to those archived messages, but GroupWise no longer tries to access them each time you start up email in the morning, thus speeding things up quite a bit.

We recommend that you store your archived email on your network personal drive (P: or F:).

In GroupWise, choose Tools, Options, Environment and File location (see below image) to set the location of your archive.

Then select the "CleanUp" tab to turn on archiving.

To see your archived mail:

  1. In the Main Window, click File , Open Archive.
    or
Click the folder list header drop-down list (above the Folder List; it probably displays Online or Caching to indicate what mode of GroupWise you are running in), then click Archive.

    * To return to your regular Inbox (non-archived email, click that folder list down-down list as noted above and select "Online".

If you are uncomfortable trying to set up archiving on your own, please contact Computer Services - we'd be happy to set it up for you!!

Losing email in Gwava?

Using a SPAM management tool like GWAVA is a double-edged sword.  If we don't have it, our inboxes become cluttered with junk email.  If we do have it, some legitimate email gets treated as SPAM.

The good news is that you do have some control of this situation!

One way you can control it is by training GWAVA as to what is SPAM vs. what is not SPAM. Each time you "release" a message from GWAVA, you are teaching it to not treat future email from that source as SPAM.  If you want to brush up on GWAVA, see our GWAVA tips here.

Another way you can control it is to put in a "whitelist" request.  If you persistently "release" email from a source and GWAVA continues to treat it as SPAM, please use our "Report Blocked URL or Email Address" form on the Computer Services home page.

As always - don't hesitate to call Computer Services at 433-8243 x222 if you have any questions.

Think before clicking "send"...

Our GroupWise email system has a "group" feature that allows us to easily communicate with a group of users with a single-click.  For example, when we want to send one email message to all district employees, we can use the "ALLDISTRICT" group.  But wait - what if your message is really only applicable to district teachers?  In that case, you can use the group "ALLTEACH".

Please stop and think about your audience before you send a group email.  Many messages might actually be more appropriate for a smaller group than "ALLDISTRICT".  Your colleagues will appreciate a more judicious use of this group feature and more specifically, of the ALLDISTRICT group.

See the available GroupWise groups below.

Tips for Mobile Users: Groupwise and otherwise...

If you are using a Smartphone or some other mobile device on OCSD resources, you may find the below tips helpful.

1. Look under Quick Links! Because Android and iOS devices will not run Flash, the top portion, including the drop-down boxes, of our District web page are not available on mobile devices.  You will find the "Log In" link available on the left under Quick Links.  This will allow you to easily get to Webaccess, eSchool, and other district resources.

2. Use the "basic interface"!  Using GroupWise webaccess - be sure to click the check-box for "use the basic interface" as you are logging on.  The "More Information" link will provide help for using this interface. This basic interface gives you full access to GroupWise, but the clicks are different.
